For every movie on Earth, there are haters that would rate it a 1/10. This is true for every movie out there. There are people who hated Titanic, Dark Knight, Shawshank Redemption, and Godfather. No movie has ever gone perfect with every viewer. For every movie that has a 8.5+ score on imdb, there are people shouting WTF at the final rating.I feel that nowadays there's too much pressure on conformity. People are starting to feel obligated to like or dislike a movie, and that's just sad. I don't think it's right to condemn an opinion or to attack the people who had different viewings. Nobody came to conclusions without reasoning, and every hater had solid reasons to hate a film. Dark Knight was not realistic, Titanic was shallow and cheesy, Shawshank was cliche and bland... When you actually listen to the people, they do have sound reasons for hating the films. You may not agree, but every opinion had a forming process, and you can't un-form it for them. And in the case of Boyhood, it's just too obvious. A movie that's 2.5 hours long with no climax and virtually no plot as well as a set of unmotivated passive lead characters each with loads of personal problems is bound to receive controversy. Some may be able to ignore all the blandness in this film, some may not. For me, this is my ultimate WTF movie. I hated it and I couldn't believe that there weren't more people who felt the same way that I did. Moreover I couldn't believe that people even applauded Linklater's "effort" in making this movie. This is a super low budget film, he only filmed for 3 days each year, he didn't even write a script he just asked the lead boy what happened to him each year and made up a script impromptu, and he hired his 8-year-old daughter as the lead female. Does this sound like effort? It's easy to follow the trend and dis people for liking or disliking certain things, but ultimately it's just very silly to do so. The adults laugh at the teenagers for following Justin Bieber and One Direction, but before Bieber was Bieber, Aaron Carter was Bieber, and before 1D was 1D, the Backstreet Boys were 1D. Different people are going to have different tastes, and even the same person can develop different tastes over time. No film is going to satisfy every viewer, and I feel that it's very unfair for the majority to pressure the minority into thinking that their opinion about a certain film is "wrong". After all, it's just entertainment, and you can't force anybody into (or out of) liking a show.
