他们掀开了美国的执法人员——警察——在社交媒体上的另一副面孔。

种族主义，性别歧视，仇恨，白人至上，宗教极端……

Investigative journalists have discovered hundreds of law enforcement officers around the country who are active in members-only Facebook groups that are based on racism and hate 。

调查采访人员发现，美国各地有数百名执法人员活跃在Facebook的某些小组中。这些私密小组基于种族主义与仇恨而建立，并且只接受小组成员访问。

Reveal ， a news website site run by the nonprofit Center for Investigative Journalism recently completed a monthslong investigation into police officers’ involvement with extremism on Facebook 。

要知道， Facebook曾经是允许用户下载其他用户的数据的。

故此，调查采访人员们筛选了一些私密的小组，想方设法加入了这些小组，并悄悄下载了小组中的成员数据。

采访人员们主要选择了以下两类的小组：

1 。 Extremist groups like “White Lives Matter ， ” “Ban the NAACP” and “Death to Islam Undercover”

2 。 Private groups that only allowed police officers ， sheriff’s deputies ， and/or corrections officers to join 。

也就是说，采访人员选择的第一类是极端组织，第二类是警察团体。

接下来的事情，就是寻找两类小组的重合用户——

The journalists then wrote software that cross-referenced the two separate lists to see if any of the cops on their list also belonged to the cyber-hate groups 。 They expected that they would get a few hits 。

采访人员们编写软件，交叉引用这两份名单，看名单上的警察是否也属于那些网络仇恨组织。他们原本以为，这样的做法也许会有点收获，但也就仅此而已。

They got more than 14 ， 000 。

之后，在经过进一步如修正错误信息、卧底排除等筛查后，调查采访人员最终确定了近400名和线上极端小组有“石锤”的警察。（“They ultimately found nearly 400 active users who fit that description 。 ”）

比如以下几个——

1 。 Geoffery Crosby ， a guard at one of America’s toughest prisons ， the Angola Prison in Louisiana 。 Crosby allegedly belonged to 56 extremist groups 。

在整理出这份名单后，调查采访人员们联系了美国许多警察部门，将这些在Facebook上加入了极端团体的警察曝了光。

据悉，一些被曝光的警察已被解雇，一些正在接受调查，还有一些警察部门辩称这是“私人问题” ，对此避而不谈，有的则干脆拒绝置评。
