不同的职位在 Airbnb 典型的一周是怎么样的

谢 @胡小迪 邀请,我没在Airbnb工作。把Quora的同样问题的答案搬过来.Airbnb: What's it like to work at Airbnb? Some background, I've been an engineer at Airbnb since 2010. Here's why I love working at Airbnb:Hard problems. Global payments, search & discovery, trust & safety, messaging & communication, natural language processing & recommendation systems, internationalization & localization, data infrastructure, growth, and customer experience...Each one of these challenges is something that companies are building entire industries out of. We're doing all of them at once under the same roof and the experience you get being surrounded by these challenges every day is amazing.I'll hear about the how the new machine learning algorithm that the guy sitting next to me implemented last week is being launched with huge results on our bottom line and then I'll turn around and hear about how we're using distributed computing and Mesos to build a better scheduler for data pipelines. On the other side of the desk, there's another engineer working on getting backbone to render on the client and the server with Node.js. The engineer that's next him just finished working on a tool that replaced our use of Salesforce. He's the only engineer on the team. One engineer replaced Salesforce for us. I could nerd out all day with the people around me.Big opportunities. The travel industry is huge. Trillions of dollars huge. It's more than double the size of the automotive manufacturing industry (source: Travel & Tourism larger industry than automotive manufacturing) Last year, 3 million guests traveled on Airbnb. We're in 192 countries, thousands of neighborhoods, and have millions of users. This is an industry we're taking on with a really small team and we're doing it like no one else. In 2012, we were inspired by Snow White, so we made a story board of the entire user experience for both guests and hosts, focusing on the emotional moments (How Snow White Helped Airbnb's Mobile Mission). The story boards act as a birds eye view of what we do. We're a people company. The Airbnb experience doesn't stop at the website. Most of the experience happens in and around the homes you discover on the website and every frame of this story matters to us.Impact. When we heard about Hurricane Sandy and how a host named Shell was opening up her home for free for anyone that was stranded, we knew we had to do more. A team of 8 people dropped everything and created a new experience to help find a place in an emergency. Allowing hosts to offer up their place for free and guests a way to find a place to rest their head in the comfort of a warm bed. In the end, 1440 hosts in NYC offered their place up for free: Let's help one another during this time of need.. It's hard to describe how rewarding it is to work on something that brings out the best in people. The most exciting part for me is that it's just the beginning.
